When I was going through the recruiting process, there were only a few ways to get in contact with college coaches. DVD’s and emails. This wasn’t that long ago.

Thanks to social media there are more ways than ever before to get in touch with college coaches. You should be taking advantage of this.

In this article I’ll go through the most effective ways along with some tips for success.

How Many Coaches Should I be Contacting?

As many as possible. If you don’t get your information in front of a coach you’ll never know what could have been.

First you’ll need to determine what level fits you best and put together some target schools.

For example, there aren’t too many 6’4 centers that could play for Duke basketball or 5’11 offensive linemen that could play for Clemson football.

Don’t sell yourself short, but don’t waste time reaching out to coaches that probably won’t be interested.

Once you have an idea what level is best for you then you can start aggressively contacting college coaches.

I recommend to the families I work with that they reach out to at least one new college coach everyday. This takes 5 minutes and is easier than doing a bunch in one sitting.

5 Best Ways to Contact College Coaches

There are probably 20-25 ways to reach out to college coaches, but these are my 5 favorite ways.

Whether you’re looking to play at a Division 1, Division 3, or Junior College these methods are all effective.

1. Email

Emailing a college coach is the most effective method in my opinion.

Almost all coaches will respond if you make it personal, add in the coaches name, and show initiative.

In the Ultimate Recruiting Package, I include email templates you can use along with special access to every college coaches email address.

This will save you hours of work – no more looking for a coaches email and then trying to figure out what to say.

2. Social Media

I really wish Twitter DM’s were a popular way to get in contact with college coaches when I was going through the recruiting process.

The ability to find, follow, message, and connect with college coaches from an app is game-changing.

If you’re not leveraging these platforms then you’re missing a golden opportunity.

I show you exactly how to set up your social media accounts, direct message coaches, and more in the Ultimate Recruiting Package.

3. Phone

Contacting college coaches over the phone is more for later in the recruiting process.

Coaches won’t answer texts and calls from people they don’t know. With all the spam calls these days you can understand why.

I would recommend starting with an email or direct message. Once you’ve built up the relationship with these coaches you can turn to the phone.

Or even better…connect with them directly through this new college recruiting app that is changing the game forever (see method #5).

4. Get Creative

Sometimes standing out means turning back to old methods. Yes I’m talking about DVD’s and handwritten letters.

Coaches get hundreds of emails and thousands of DM’s. How many letters or DVD’s do they get? Not many.

Do whatever it takes to get your name across a coaches desk.

5. AIR APP

What if you could combine social media with a recruiting platform? Well that’s what the AIR app does.

Think of it like twitter and a dating app combined but strictly for college recruiting.

Make your athletic resume, match with college coaches, send them messages, and starting earning offers.
