I saw this tweet the other day and it got me fired up.

Travel/Club/AAU events have turned in to the biggest greed fest I have ever seen. It really get you thinking…is AAU a scam?

All these companies hosting events are trying to make up for last year by charging insane prices this year.

You don’t need to be an economist to understand that the COVID shutdowns really f’d up the economy. Inflation is here by the way, but that’s a convo for another day.

How much money for hosting the tournament?

According to the tweet above the hosts of the tournament racked in a lot of money. Let’s do the math.

412 teams x $3,000/team = $1,236,000 upfront

Lets say there are 14 players/team and 2 parents/player and 1 sibling/player.

This example is for travel baseball by the way

28 parents x 412 teams = 11,536 parents x $50 = $576,800

14 siblings x 412 teams = 5,768 siblings x $25 = $144,200

$1,236,000 + $576,800 + $144,200 = $1,957,000 revenue

DISGUSTING.

Realistically, they made a lot more if you factor in the:

The average family paid over a thousand dollars to be here. Maybe even had to take out credit.

And this is just for one tournament. What about the 2-3 other ones they still have left to play throughout the summer? INSANITY.

Hopefully their kid played well and has a chance at earning an athletic scholarship that will provide a good ROI on these insanely overpriced tournaments.

Oh Wait….

This is a baseball tournament we’re talking about here. Nearly every college baseball player will be on a partial athletic scholarship.

With that said, for every nearly every sport besides football, you need to play on a club/AAU/travel team to get the attention of college coaches.

Sports at the amateur level have gotten insane.

Throw in the fact that these athletes now have the ability to earn money in college through NIL, it is only going to get freakier.

Parents are going to be spending more money, camps are going to keep hiking up their prices, vultures are going to be preying on the uninformed, the social media antics are going to get more bizarre, and an athletic scholarship isn’t going to be valued as much as the ability to sign NIL promotion deals.

Stay on Top of IT

If you don’t have a map to this game you’re going to get lost.

Not only will your pockets be slimmer, but a college athletic scholarship won’t even be in the picture.

At this point in history, you have more resources than ever before to become a successful athlete. But at the same time, the water is a lot murkier than ever before.

Bring your googles.

I’m trying my best to help everyone in the process

The whole process is flawed – which I’m sure you’re well aware of.

On a positive note there’s still a lot of good and life changing opportunities waiting on the other side.

I have created a recruiting guidebook to make the recruiting process a little clearer for you and your family.

So far over 750 families have invested in their future.

For those of you new here, at the end of every post I include something that is intended to make you think on a deeper level.

The world is always trying to tell you how to think. It’s more important now than ever before to think for yourself and express your views.

What will NIL look like in 2-3 years?
